Official Reveal of the 2025 Toyota 4Runner

2025 Toyota 4Runner: The well-known Toyota 4Runner SUV has been changed a lot for the first time in 15 years. This SUV is mainly made for people in North America, but it’s also sold as the Hilux Surf in other places. In this update, the 4Runner now uses a new modular platform, has a new look, more things it can do, and better technology for going off-road.

New Toyota 4Runner: What’s New with It?

The new 4Runner now shares the same TNGA-F truck framework with vehicles like the Tacoma, the new Land Cruiser Prado, and some other Toyota and Lexus models.

Instead of the old 4.0-liter V6 petrol engine and 5-speed automatic transmission, it has a 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that can produce 282hp. This engine is also used in other Toyota SUVs like the Land Cruiser Prado but in a more powerful 330hp version. Both engine choices come with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The Toyota 4Runner is different from many other fancy Toyota SUVs because it offers a 2WD option and part-time 4WD and full-time 4WD versions. The 4Runner 2WD has a regular limited-slip differential. In contrast, the 4WD models have a 2-speed electronically controlled transfer case with high and low range, and they also come with Toyota’s new Active Traction control tech called Toyota A-Trac. There are settings like Mud, Dirt, and Sand modes, plus a Crawl Control feature for off-road driving. The new 4Runner has good angles for approaching steep hills and leaving them.

There’s also a new Trailhunter version of the 4Runner that looks tougher and more rugged. It has special off-road features like 33-inch off-road tires that lift the front by about 2 inches and the back by 1.5 inches. It also has taller Old Man Emu forged shocks, an ARB-designed roof rack, a higher air intake, a 20-inch light bar, and steel skid plates at the front and back. Its grille looks different, too, with Toyota lettering, while other 4Runner versions have a regular Toyota logo on the grille.

New Toyota 4Runner: Features and Technology

Regarding comfort, the regular 4Runner has heated front and second-row seats, a head-up display, rain-sensing wipers, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, and a 7.0-inch digital instrument panel. Higher-end models have a larger 14.0-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connections, wireless charging, and USB-C ports.

For safety, the new 4Runner has standard Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, recognizing road signs, and automatic high beams.
